What They Told Us
Experiences From Families Across Johor
These are genuine reflections from families who have completed one of our services. Names and details are used with permission.
Tan Hui Ling
Johor Bahru, Johor
"I came to Willowend because my father passed away and I had no idea where to start. The Roots session was exactly what I needed β it put everything in plain English and told me which offices to go to. I left feeling much less lost."
June 2025 Β· Roots Orientation Session
Ahmad Rashdan
Skudai, Johor
"We used the Records Organisation Service before meeting a solicitor. It took a bit longer than I expected β mostly because we had more documents than we thought β but the folder system they set up was very practical. The solicitor actually commented on how well organised everything was."
June 2025 Β· Estate Records Organisation
Lim Mei Xian
Kulai, Johor
"My mother and I did the Legacy Programme together. It took about six weeks. What I valued most was that there was no pressure β we could ask slow, careful questions and Wei Ting was always patient. The archive binder is something my mother now keeps on her bookshelf and has shown to her siblings."
May 2025 Β· Generational Legacy Programme
Rosnah Nordin
Kluang, Johor
"I was nervous about this whole topic but the Roots session made it feel manageable. They explained who does what in Malaysia β the departments, the solicitors β and gave me a list I could keep. I now know where to begin and who to call."
July 2025 Β· Roots Orientation Session
Vijay Krishnan
Johor Bahru, Johor
"Rajan helped us sort through a fairly complicated set of documents β property in two states, insurance policies from different periods, and some older records we were not sure were still relevant. The checklist they built for us was clear and genuinely useful. One star off only because parking nearby can be tricky."
June 2025 Β· Estate Records Organisation
Chong Yoke Fong
Batu Pahat, Johor
"My husband and I did the Legacy Programme as part of planning ahead β not because anything had happened, just because we felt it was time. The question sheet they helped us prepare was very well put together. We took it to our solicitor and she said it was one of the clearest first meetings she had had."

How Families Have Used Our Services
Case Study 01
A Daughter Helping Her Widowed Father
The Situation
A woman in her forties from Johor Bahru came to us after her mother passed away. Her elderly father had very little idea of what documents existed or where they were kept. There was property, some savings, and an old insurance policy whose status was unclear.
What We Did
We began with the Roots Orientation Session to help the daughter understand the general process, then moved into the Records Organisation Service to sort through a box of mixed documents the father had collected over decades. We built a clear indexed folder and identified the main categories of records present.
The Outcome
Within four sessions over three weeks, the family had a clear, organised file. The daughter described it as "the difference between not knowing where to start and walking in with a folder." She then engaged a solicitor, who estimated the meeting would have taken twice as long without the preparation.
Case Study 02
A Retired Couple Planning Together
The Situation
A couple in their early sixties from Batu Pahat wanted to get their affairs in order proactively β not in response to any event, but simply because they felt it was time. They had never discussed these matters formally and were not sure what records they needed to gather.
What We Did
They enrolled in the Generational Legacy Programme, completing it over seven weeks. We ran the educational sessions with both spouses present, which they found helpful β each had different questions. We helped them build individual record files and a joint question sheet for their solicitor meeting.
The Outcome
The couple left with two personal archive binders, a shared question list, and β in their words β "a lot less to argue about, because now it is all written down." They subsequently met with a solicitor and reported that the conversation was far more productive than they had expected.
Case Study 03
An Adult Child Managing Records Remotely
The Situation
A man working in Kuala Lumpur was responsible for handling his late uncle's affairs in Johor. He could only travel on weekends and was overwhelmed by the range of documents, agencies, and professionals involved. He had already made several enquiries that had not gone anywhere.
What We Did
We ran the Roots session via video call to accommodate his schedule, then carried out the Records Organisation work across two weekend visits. We also provided written notes summarising the relevant Malaysian authorities and what each step would typically involve, so he had a clear reference between visits.
The Outcome
He described the written reference list as "exactly what I needed β something I could re-read on the train and send questions from." With organised records and a clearer picture of the process, he was able to complete the formal process with an administrator within two months of finishing our service.
